WORLD OF DELIVERIES

Pluses and minuses of driving for any food delivery platform.

pluses and minuses of food delivery platforms

It gives you freedom and flexibility. Only You decide where and when to drive. You make your own schedule and decide which orders to accept and which to decline.

You’ll spend lots of time alone with your favourite music in the comfort of your own car. New routes, new faces. No office routine. Zero annoying people. That is what I personally like about that.

Beeing your own Boss comes with anxiety. Be ready to have uncertainty on how much u’ll make. Will that be enough to cover your bills? You will never know for sure.

Your car will require extra care and maintaince. You can get into accident, have flat tire or simply hit something on the road. Food deliveries is a super fun part-time gig. But as a full time it can get tricky. You won’t have any sort of benefits, like health insurence and etc. You would have to get into a habbit of setting money aside for emergencies. You must keep track of all your expences for taxes.

People order food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Weekends are always busy. Your schedule would be built around that. To make decent money u’ll be working long hours, including late nights, early mornings and weekends.

Flexiable schedule stops to be flexiable. For each 40 hours actively involved in deliveries u’ll have at least 20-40 hours of waiting for the orders. So to make good money expect to be on-call for 80+ hours per week.

Markets are different. Know the market you are in. Have realistic expectations.

If you are a full-time delivery driver in any of the platforms. You need to have a strategy. You must know everything about restaurants in your area. Come up with a list of restaurants you always want to deliver from. Take into consideration how busy they get and quality of food. Do they miss any items Clients order? Is food usually ready by the time shown in your app? Based on my experience I would recommend to deliver from high end restaurants, cause the tips as a rule are % from the total cost of the order. So gratuity always would be higher from more expenssive restaurants.

Come up with the list of restaurants you are ok to deliver from. And have a list of restaurants you would never deliver from. For example, I had so many issues with Burger King and IHOP that I never take orders from them any more.
